Building Your Faith

Is your faith weak?  Do you wish you had more faith?  Do you admire the faith of another?

I hear many people wish for faith or lament the lack of it.  I hear people pray for more faith then wonder when God will give it to them.

I understand.  Been there – done that.

Finally, I asked God how to build my faith and I searched the scriptures.

In God’s goodness, He does teach us about faith in His word!

Why is faith important?  And what is it?

He tells us in Hebrews 11:6, “And it is impossible to please God without faith.”

But He doesn’t stop there!  He also defines what faith is as the scripture continues.

“Anyone who wants to come to him must believe that God exists and that he rewards those who sincerely seek him.”

Okay!  So I saw this and realized faith is vital and it is also rather simple!  It believes God IS and that He is a REWARDER.  God is and He is GOOD.

But how do we get faith?  How do we build this knowledge of God and seek Him?

Romans 10:17 explains how faith comes: “So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”

Faith comes by hearing the Word of God!  Hearing the good news given to us in the Bible.  Hearing about Jesus and what He has done for us and continues to do on our behalf as our advocate in heaven.

So, next time you feel that your faith is weak.  Remember, that God gave us the instructions on how to build our faith…hear the Word of God.  Listen to cd’s that build your faith and encourage you to stay strong in your walk with God.  Call a friend that believes in God’s willingness and ability to help you!  Read books that remind you that “God is our refuge and strength,  always ready to help in times of trouble.” (Psalm 46:1)

Feed your faith and starve your fear.  Don’t entertain fear & worry (and all the messengers that bring it!)

But most of all, open your Bible and read from the word as a personal love letter from your Creator to you.  Let His word build you up, give you wisdom, guide your thoughts, and strengthen your faith.

He is faithful.

“Loving God means keeping his commandments, and his commandments are not burdensome, for every child of God defeats this evil world, and we achieve this victory through our faith.” 1 John 5:3-4

Your victory = your faith = His Word.
